First Visit

First visits to our office can be a little bit surprising to some patients – if it’s not a dental emergency. Instead of hustling you in for a simple “drill and fill,” we start your first visit by getting to know you. This is an important part of your ongoing dental care. Why? We need to know what your expectations are, what your health history is and who you are as an individual so we can give you the kind of dental care you really need.

During the initial interview, Dr. White will perform a comprehensive oral exam, checking for cavities, decay, oral cancer and gum disease. These dental exams and screenings allow us to look for developing signs of periodontal disease, oral cancer, TMJ, and even the earliest signs of tooth decay. We know that when a problem is caught early, it's much easier and less expensive to treat and has much less impact on your systemic health.

We will take a full set of x-rays to check for hidden decay and damage and use these as a baseline for future reference. To ensure that our screenings are the most accurate available, we have invested in the latest technology such as digital x-rays and intra-oral cameras to allow us to get a detailed overview of your entire mouth including your teeth, jawbone, sinuses and other parts of your head and neck.

Depending on the outcome of your initial exam, we may recommend that you return for a cleaning and further discussion of your treatment plan. This allows Dr. White to take time with your exam results and reflect on the best path toward health, taking into consideration your needs, desires and budgetary concerns.

Your well-being is something we never take for granted. It's why we work so hard to keep you comfortable…and it is also why we emphasize the importance of your regularly scheduled exams and screenings.

Whatever your situation, you can be sure that your first visit will be exceptionally complete and comprehensive to give us a full picture of your oral health and a detailed map to guide you through the care you choose. Our patients tell us it is the best dental exam they have ever had.
